SCHURMANS POINT, P.E.I. – Smoke billowed overhead as a three-bedroom cedar property overlooking the waterfront burned to the ground Sunday afternoon in Schurmans Point.
Kensington’s Deputy Fire Chief Rodney Hickey said the call came in at 3:57 p.m.
“It was extreme, but the boys did a great job knocking down the fire and smoke that was coming through the roof,” he said.
The four residents escaped, with their dog unharmed, from the fire that gutted the home located at 94 High View Road, just off Schurmans Point.
The owner of the rental property, Sinclair Walker, was at the scene.
Walker said, “They all got out safe, including the dog, and they are all good tenants.”
As the heat and smoke circled the air, he added calmly, “We can rebuild. What matters is that everyone is safe.”
Walker has owned the property for about three years.
He noted, “It was a beautiful cedar property.”
The cause of the blaze that destroyed the home is unknown.
Firefighters expected to remain on scene for two to three hours until it's safe to leave.
