A 62-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a motorcycle collision in Charlottetown Sunday afternoon while a man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Charlottetown police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Riverside Drive, just east of Southgate Drive, at about 3:20 p.m. Sunday.
Police said the vehicle was a three-wheel Gold Wing motorcycle that was travelling east on Riverside Drive when it appeared to have struck the curb and subsequently hit a streetlight.
The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the male driver, also 62, was transported by Island EMS to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Police had Riverside Drive from Kensington Road to the Garfield Street Roundabout blocked off for much of the afternoon.
“We were allowing anyone through that needed to go to the hospital, but otherwise we were redirecting,” said Sgt. Dave Pound.
While the westbound lane of Riverside Drive was re-opened Sunday evening, the eastbound lane remained closed to allow for a traffic reconstructionist to investigate.
Police said they are still investigating the collision and are seeking public assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the collision. Witnesses can reach Charlottetown Police Services at 902-629-4172.
