Ellen Mullally has declared her intention to run in Ward 4 in the upcoming Charlottetown municipal election.
The election will take place in November.
Mullally was born in Ward 4 and lives there with her husband, Robert Pendergast, and their daughter.
Trained as an educator, Mullally has worked in Ottawa. She currently works for the Association of Newcomers to Canada.
Mullally is deeply interested in issues that impact her ward, such as streets and sidewalks, as well as issues like water conservation that impact the city as a whole.
“I am running for city council because I care about Charlottetown and I see its great potential,’’ Mullally said. “We live in a wonderful small city that is safe, clean, and offers a lot for a city of its size. I would like to build on our strengths - our thriving business community, arts and culture, including food and our strong sense of neighbourliness.’’
Mullally says she intend to focus on sustainability – both financial and environmental – and to work with the other levels of government on improving access to affordable housing. She also pledged to hold town hall style meetings for Ward 4 to help citizens better understand and have input on decision making.
Mullally also stressed the importance of long-term planning for the city, developing a plan that makes the city, and Ward 4, an even better place to raise a family, start a business, study or retire.
